History
In 1948, Masons Supply decided to get out of the contracting business and concentrate on supplying building materials. Corey acquired the construction division and started his own construction company under his own name.
During the ensuing decades the Gustafsson Company developed a reputation of quality, integrity and value for its clients. Many of downtown Portland’s buildings saw Corey’s work including the Meier & Frank Building (now Macys), the Benson Hotel, the main branch of the Multnomah County Library, the Bank of California Building, the American Bank Building, and the New Heathman Hotel. Other parts of the region also utilized Corey’s expertise including many of the Mall buildings of the State of Oregon in Salem, the State Capitol Building and St. Francis Catholic Church in Bend.
In the mid 1960’s Corey’s son Erik began working for the company during school summer vacations. In 1972 Erik took over management of the company and eventually acquired the business when Corey retired in 1975.
For the next two decades Corey A. Gustafsson Company became one of the most respected installer of liquid applied waterproof membranes in the Pacific Northwest.
In 1997 Erik hired Ryan Glenn as an estimator and project manager. Ryan had been working in his own renovation construction company, and after working with Erik on a mission trip with Northwest Medical Teams, Ryan accepted the invitation to work together with Erik full time. Ryan was promoted to General Manager in 2000, and in 2003 Ryan and Erik formed a new partnership named Applied Exteriors to continue the tradition of high quality building restoration and waterproofing established by Erik's father and uncle.
